Coping with Disappointment by Mike

There was a time when I expected to have one of the best experiences of my life, but something happened that ruined everything.  I was going to me some of my family who I haven't seen for two years, but something suddenly changed.

It was a sunny Friday, when my family and I all piled into the car to ride to Ithaka, where my uncle and my aunt lived.  I was going to stay there for two nights and three days to visit them, and to get a tour of Cornell University, because my uncle was one of the professors there.  I was expecting the weather to be nice and sunny the whole time there, because my dad said that we were going to have fun playing in the yard that was as big as a football field.  I hoped that it was going to be one of the best days of my life.

We drove for about wto and a half hours until we finally arrived in the town of Ithaka.  When we arrived, we were greeted by my aunt, uncle, and their baby who was about one year old.  We had our lunch inside their house.  We had a ramen party, which meant that we all had as much ramen noodle as we wanted, except of course the baby.

When we were full, we all piled into the car to get a tour of Cornell University.  I was amazed at how large and beautiful the university was.  It was so beautiful that the time was flying and I thought one hour was one minute.  By the time evening came, we arrived at a hotel to eat our dinner and sleep.  In the hotel bed, I was so excited about having a BBQ party the next day.

The next day, I looked out the window and got stumped.  It was raining.  I hoped that the weather would not be so stormy so that we could have a party later that evening.  Like the day before, we had a tour, except that we had to stay inside or wear our poncho while traveling from place to place.  It was about 5:00PM, and I got stumped again.  It was still raining.  That meant no party.  No yard.  No soccer.  No running around like a maniac.  All my anticipation turned into dust, like a tree turning into smithereens.

We didn't get to have a party, so my uncle had a barbecue inside!  My uncle brought the grill inside and let the smoke out through the windows.  How clever of him.

I guess I really got over the dissappointment of being let down by the weather.  To cheer myself up, we had ice-cream & cake.  I didn't have a horrible day after all, but not a great day either.  However, I learned to always look at the weather forecast before a special occasion.
