Do Not Go Gentle into that Good Night by Esther
"Do Not Go Gentle into that Good Night is a famous poem by Dylan Thomas. It is inspiring and yet, has the mixed feelings of sorrow and gallantry. The poem is about a man who is dying, but is not giving up. He is fighting against death and is giving in as much effort as he can until it is time for him to surrender.
The beginning of the poem says, "Though wise men at their end know dark is right," which means that old men know when it is time for them to go and that it is the right time. The subject of this poem is death and it gives the image of a great battle between life and death, hence the quote "Rage, rage against the dying of the light."
The quote, "Do Not Go Gentle in that Good Night" is the crucial part of the entire poem. I think it means to never give in to any loss and put up a good fight. Even if you do not suceed, you will still have a relieved and refreshed feeling that you did your very best. The quote, "Blind eyes could blaze like meteors and be gay." also gives off the determined, fiery spirit a perosn has when they are rebelling against the enemy.
This poem is very inspiring. Also, because it is about fighting death, it is relaly shocking. Usually when someone dies, they would hopefully go peacefully, but in contrast, the person in this poem is defying death. The quote, "Curse, bless me now with your fierce tears, I pray," uses dramatic words ("curse," "fierce tears") to bring out emotions from the writing and the reader. I thought his use of this kind of language added the element of surprise the best, because at first, I thought the fight was about something violent such as war. More generally, Thomas uses powerful, commanding words to describe the ultimate battle between life and death.
"Do Not Go Gentle into that Good Night," is a touching poem to read and was very interesting. It is inspirational and different. Not only is it descriptive, but it is also surprising and moving as well.
