Rory Dunn and Derek Curry have been best friends since they were young. They are neighbors and are always together. Rory is much shorter than Derek and Rory has a little complex about this. He is bossy and always makes decision for himself and Derek. One day in the summer, their neighbor, Mrs. Golding, who is very kind to the boys, told them that her grand niece, whose name is Bolivia, would come to their town and stay during the vacation. Bolivia is a girl who had been to so many countries because of her archeologist parents. The boys, who want to have their own vacation, decide to ignore her because she is likely to bother them. On the first day that she came to their town, she has party, but the boys go to one of their friends’ house to avoid her. But the boys, who couldn’t endure the boredom and terrible food of Maurice’s house, came back home and just ignored her. The next day, there was a little fuss because of Lucette, Bolivia’s parrot.
After this fuss, Bolivia played with the boy. The day that the three of them had snowball fight with ice cream at Derek’s house was the turning point in Derek’s mind. Derek began to like Bolivia who was different from the girls that they knew. From this, a conflict between the best friends arose because Rory still didn’t like Bolivia. The conflict became deepest when Derek told Rory he would go to summer camp without Rory. Rory who had decided not to go to the camp felt betrayed and Derek, who always had followed Rory, became a little angry with him. So, Derek went to the camp after a little fight with Rory. After Derek left for the camp, Bolivia played with not Rory but Edna, Rory’s little sister. But Rory had to play with Bolivia because it was too boring to ignore her without Derek.
Finally, after the night in Rory’s backyard for aurora borealis with Bolivia, Rory changed his mind. He understood her and realized that she was different from what he thought. They became more intimate
after selling lemonade and they also earned some money. However, Rory hurt his toes from when he let Lucette loose, so he couldn’t walk well. Then Derek finally came back from camp. Rory, who was worried about the fight right before Derek left, was relieved when Derek treated him as if there had not been a fight between them. Therefore, they could not only be best friends again, but also have another friend, Bolivia. The three of them had a good time, even though they were not able to play outside because Rory had hurt his toes. In the farewell party for Bolivia, Rory and Derek gave a shirt which had the lettering: Bolivia More Than Just Another Country and also Rory and Derek were wearing the same shirts.
